The Sweet Spot

I think I found my sweet spot.

It’s been a challenge to write everyday and so I have not.   However, writing when inspiration hits works for me and so that is when a posting appears.  Today, nothing immediately came to mind as time was spent writing to update my website for my business. The thing was, today I performed this task in the library.  I felt like a true professional writer.

Working on my laptop in the studio never set well with me and was a distraction from the making I should have been doing.  With the move to a new studio, the wi-fi situation has been less than desirable – relying on a weak signal from the local pho restaurant. My home computer, a Mac, does not have the program to update the website and so a dilemma was created. The solution came in the form of an accident in that my daughter asked to go to the library on the way home.  It occurred to me to bring in the laptop and see if there was free wi-fi available.  Score! There was.  The clincher came when Clarence, my local friendly librarian, saw me attempting to set up at a table with no outlet.  He asked if I would like to use the classroom. “Really?” I asked, “I can use this room?” “Of course you can,” was his accommodating response. He unlocked the door and the room, about 10 feet square, was opened for me.  One wall was completely glass that looked out onto a bit of green and the back of the local theater. I closed the door and there was silence. The natural light streamed in softly, I plugged in, found the wi-fi connection and immediately set to work.  I announced to Clarence that I had found my new office!

It is a sweet spot.  Studiousness surrounds me, as do high ceilings, friendly faces, and privacy. It pays to campaign to keep your libraries open (even if the majority voted that it didn’t want to pay for it and so four out of our seven libraries in a city of 310,000 were shut at the end of last year – oh the horror), as the perks are fabulous.  This spot will be where I will write most of my future 300words posts.  It makes me feel serious, committed and obligated to rise to the task in the presence of all those lovely books with countless words.
